Music with Monkeys.

Something I read and find interesting.

Muskrat Love” may have been a hit in the 1970s, but “Cotton-Top Tamarin Affiliative” doesn’t have quite the same Top-40 potential -- unless you happen to a primate
The "song" -- part of a collaboration between a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor and a musician -- certainly got some Wisconsin-based Cotton-Tops, small monkeys normally found in the forests of northern Columbia, going. The researchers described how music could influence the monkey's behavior in a study published in this week's
Biology Letters journal.Generally, monkeys don’t like our music. They prefer silence. But they’re good at using sound to convey feeling, a major component of music.
They’re so good at it that humans can often interpret monkey’s calls even if they’ve never encountered a species before. When Charles Snowdon, a psychology professor, played some Cotton-Top calls for musician David Teie at the University of Maryland, Teie correctly identified the monkey’s emotional state just by hearing their "songs." He could tell when the animals were upset and when they were relaxed.Testing showed that the monkeys tended not to respond to human music, though Teie did note that of the human music types he tried out on the monkeys, the most calming one was the heavy-metal band Metallica.
Then Teie, who also plays cello in the National Symphony Orchestra, set out to discover whether it would be possible to create music that did speak to monkeys, using their sense of sound rather than human notions.Teie wrote two ‘songs.’ One was called “
Threat” and is based on fear and threat calls of the tamarin. A second, called “Affiliative2" contains soothing, pure notes.
For the five minutes after they heard “Threat” the monkeys showed symptoms of anxiety and moved around more. After hearing “Affiliative 2” they moved less and ate more, both signs of being calm. The work might make a whole new arena of human-animal communication possible, Snowdon said in a University release. "People have looked at animal communication in terms of conveying information - 'I am hungry,' or 'I am afraid.' But it's much more than that. These musical elements are inducing a relatively long-term change in behavior of listeners.”
In fact, says Snowdon, there may be deep evolutionary roots in the musical elements of speech. "The emotional components of music and animal calls might be very similar, and from an evolutionary perspective, we are finding that the note patterns, dissonance and timing are important for communicating affective states in both animals and people."

Friends

Friends are always there for you,
Friends are always true,
Friends are what make the world go round,
Everything I'm speaking is a lie!
Friends are nothing unless they are true.

I have found out that the only way to find who is a real true friends is by being yourself.
If you can't be yourself then who can you be?

Well I am myself, and I am acting myself,
and the funny thing is all the people I thought were my "friends" turned out to be nothing
but people using me.
They left me on my ass to die alone and not one of them looked back upon me.

I feel bad though because I could never be that "perfect someone" that they all wanted.
I couldn't always be the care free one,
The one that doesn't take crap but dishes it out left and right.

I am who I am, and they are who they are, but what I figured out is that they are missing out
on a great friend. A friend that was true and would've done anything for them, but not anymore.

The guitar I might get next week

This is the guitar I might buy be the end of the month! I'm so excited that I could scream(not really but you get my point) can't wait to add yet another instrument to my amazing collection of musical instruments!!!

Who Are You?

Who are you? Don't stare at this screen when I say this to you and think, "well why would I tell you my name?" But clearly, you're mistaken. It's not your name that I'm asking... Who are you? What do your relationships mean to you? Do you often find yourself wishing you could be/do something more? Or that you're meant for bigger things (yes I am very aware that's what she said)? Are you an artist, a lover, a fighter, a musician, or just a person? Truly, I ponder this about myself often. To me, I'm just a girl fighting to make her opinions known. I don't like to put myself out in the open, because I'm far too afraid of getting hurt like I have in the past. I over analyze situations and look at them from every side... just to be sure of the outcome. But can you ever really be certain? A good friend of mine told me that I need to "fight the flow; go against what I normally would just to see the outcome; do what I want and never let people tell me what to do." I'm trying my hardest to listen to him. But fear is a powerful thing; you can never fully extract yourself from it's grip. I'm a fighter, yet a lover all the same. More effectively, I'll fight till the death for what/who I love. And what I do love is going to take a large amount of effort to achieve. Who you truly are is defined not by the name that you are born with or the family you are born into, not the job you go into or the amount of money you have... but how you choose to live your life. The definition of "person" in the philosophical sense is bluntly "a self-conscious or rational being." Self consciousness is both the excessive awareness of what others think of you and at the same time being conscious of oneself and one's own being. To me, the definitions are choices. Choose to be overly aware of others opinions of you as I do unwillingly, or choose to be aware of YOURSELF and your own being first, instead of others... as I wish I were. Please comment, feedback and suggestions welcome. :) Thank ya!! <3,>

Fight the Flow!

I sometimes like to mess with the time stream, drop a pebble in the pool of life and see how far the ripples go, Do something that I wouldn't normally do just to see how it would affect the people around me. I also like to compare the differences between the Affects and Effects of my actions, The Alterations and Consequences of how i changed something. A good positive example would be if everyday i ate a snickers bar (I'm not saying i do, this is for example purposes only) i would be on the kind of unhealthy side of the chart, but lets say one day i decided to eat a granola bar instead, well now I'm taking stairs instead of the elevator, I'm drinking water instead of unhealthy carbonated beverages, I'm just an all around happier healthier guy. Now that was just an example of what I've been talking about with the take control of your own life and fate. Making the splash as I like to call it is an excellent way of just doing that. There are many things you could do, small things that would alter your life in exponential ways. Either don't believe me or find this interesting and would like to try it? well do just that, fight the flow, cause that disturbance in the pool of and life and see just how far the ripples go. I would like you to comment what you did and the Affects vs. Effects of that decision.

Yes I'm editing it haha, I wanted to clarify my post, This goes deeper than what I put on here and I wanted to explain a little more. The whole point to this is to do what you think is best, life is filled with up's and down's, it's like the emotional roller coaster from hell, so the point is life sucks ass all the time but you still have to make the best of it, do something different, excite your life and make it a little better. Have fun, laugh, love, party (put that last one in there for me and my homies xD) life's no fun if your anal and take everything into consideration before doing something, because I'll tell you this more often than most, there will always be that voice in the back of your head saying, "well what if i did do that?" and it can get very irritating after a while, trust me I know from experience. I can't stress it enough how important it is to have fun with your life and enjoy yourself.

This goes out to

Life, Ever just question it?

Ever just sit and think? Think about life and all that it is? Wonder if it's fate or just random unfortunate events? If it is fate why don't we control it? Why should time be taken from us if it's our lives? Shouldn't we be in control? You may look at me and say he's crazy or he needs help but all it takes is a little sitting and thinking about things to get you hooked, You may call me insane but I'm pretty sure this post has put a couple questions in your head, questions you might have never thought before, or maybe you have and this is just reminding you of those ideas,
post the questions this gave you in the comment box, i would like to know because who knows maybe we're thinking the same thing, or maybe your questions might give me new questions or topics to talk about, and remember; your life is in your hands and you do control the outcome you just have to fight for it and don't ever give up.
